I always look forward to Halloween because I love visiting haunts. Unfortunately, upon visiting, I’ve been let down plenty of times. In fact, it seems like every haunt in Michigan is voted the best, depending on what list you look at, and I can guarantee that they all are not. This year, I broke free of my regular haunt lineup and went to Hush Haunted Attraction Westland, Michigan.
To start off, the Hush Haunted Attraction tickets are a fair price with options to upgrade and skip the lines. If you do wait in line, they have indoor waiting in an area kept fairly comfortable considering the amount of bodies in the same room, and the line moves pretty quickly. They also have a few entertainers interacting with those waiting, which gave me my first look at how impressive the makeup was going to be.
When we finally started, we came up to an actor in amazing airbrushed makeup, and she explained to us that the haunt consisted of three different themes: Coven, Manor, and Catacombs. After which, she let us past… into a different time.
We stood in a lobby that belonged in the early 1900s, complete with bellboys waiting to guide us onward. If we didn’t have to consider other people waiting behind us, we all agreed that we would have been fine just hanging out in this one room for the rest of the night. It was gorgeous! But, alas, we had to move on when the bellboy beckoned.
I won’t spoil anything beyond the photos I’ve provided, but we were all continuously blown away by the movie quality sets. There was hardly a room that we didn’t want to stay in and absorb it all. We joked about staying the night in the haunt playing horror games, because it was THAT nice.
I could gush about the sets in more detail, but you need to experience them first hand. Hush Haunted Attraction knocked it out of the park in this department.
We also came across several frightening characters in our walkthrough, all with fantastic makeup and costumes. Most of the acting was phenomenal as well. One in particular stuck out as probably one of the best I’ve encountered at a haunt. Which one? You’ll have to visit yourself to find out.
The props, from what I could tell, were mostly made by the Hush Haunted Attraction studio and were on par with the sets themselves. They really rounded out the whole thing and helped bring it all to life.
The animatronics were also top notch, bringing to the table some extremely effective and amazing things, stuff I’ve never seen before. Again, I wanted to gawk… but I couldn’t.
Hush Haunted Attraction is around 30,000 square feet, with plans to add another 10,000 for next season. It typically takes 25-30 minutes to get through, and you’ll love every second. I can’t recommend it enough! Half of my group are people who don’t really get scared at haunts, but go to enjoy the art of it, and the other half gets terrified. We all walked out happy, and the ones that don’t scare easily even had a few moments of both jumps and creeps (kudos to another particular actor on that).
