7 Crazy Summer Camps in Horror Movies

Camp Crystal Lake

One of the most known summer camps horror stories, Friday the 13th (1980), directed by Sean S. Cunningham follows the story of camp counselors who are stalked and killed at Camp Crystal Lake by an unknown killer. Tragedy had struck a few years before at the same camp when a young boy, Jason Voorhees drowned when counselors weren’t paying attention. But do you know who the original killer was?  Surprisingly, not everyone does. Fun facts: The movie was filmed at Camp No-Be-Bo-Sco in New Jersey, which is still in operation, and has a wall of paraphernalia to honor the movie. The original title of the script was called, “Long Night at Camp Blood.” The film made had a small budget of $550,000 which was easy to work with since the location and set were already there minus the bathrooms. It a whopping $39,754,601 at the box office! Although watching Friday the 13th franchise has become poplar whenever the calendar day falls on Friday the 13th, it’s still a great summer movie and a perfect example of what not to do if you want to stay alive in a slasher movie.
