House Guests From Hell: Kathleen Behun’s ’21 DAYS’ (2014) – Review

I happen to enjoy found footage a lot, especially when it’s ghosts or killer grandmas and so on. Kathleen Buhen’s 21 Days is a staple in my life that always keeps me loyal, so much so that it is number 4 in my top 10 movies I love. There is a different perspective on these movies, and it’s easy for me to get sucked in. I found that films outside the plot I love aren’t worth a damn.

Let’s get into the review.

Synopsis

Three filmmakers embark on a paranormal challenge by barricading themselves in a house so haunted, no one has been able to live in for more than 21 days. After uncovering the mirrors in the home after begin warned not to, and they slowly realize that they are intruders in something evil’s home.

don’t touch the mirrors

Who you gonna call? Someone else.

21 Days turns something simple into something extreme in a matter of hours. I love the buildup to what was going to happen in the end. In all honesty, I would have more love for the ghosts; the people were pretty annoying characters. Their job was to overstep their role; this would be the moment. That is actually the only negative scene I found. The film makes up for the bad acting by making people hate the characters and their pompous attitudes, or being scared of the dark.

Damn paparazzi!

I can say one thing for sure, this house being the only set worked so well; it makes you believe in the evil spirits and how much damage they can do. Do I believe in ghosts? Absolutely; even if it is kind of traumatic, but we all have something that makes us uneasy, so that thought was a positive point in my head. I knew I was going to enjoy the entire film. 21 Days set the tone for my attention span. Too much dialogue gets boring, but somehow, watching characters take shape as the brain-rotting possession climbs aboard an unsettling movie.

Knowing that this chaos is something creative and a new concept, normally, it is the spirits blocking your only escape routes. This is on the other end from 21 Days, a solo artist in a symphony of boredom. Instead of being locked in by angry spirits, but boarding yourself in should raise some concern. Eventually, you will see the other side of the characters as one by one they become someone different, and it becomes dangerous. This is what keeps you entertained, watching the characters you never really liked and hoped they would all suffer slow deaths, just because they are a nuisance.

In The End

21 Days belongs in my cherished list, shooting straight up the ranks, only blocked by three movies. The film has earned its spot in found footage. There is a Hell House LLC feel to the film. However, the film is centered on building a really cool haunted attraction before it all falls apart. I find the comparison of the films separate, and that is howI enjoy all these films, outside of slashers, and ghostly found footage, not like The Poughkeepsie Tapes. In the end. 21 Days is a good film to cover up nicely and neatly, so you can focus on the story, instead of the gore.

You can find 21 Days streaming on Tubi and other free streaming platforms; give it a chance.
