Fantasia Fest 2018: ‘The Witch in the Window’

The Fantasia International Film Festival is known for its greatness, and 2018 is proving to be one of the best years yet for them. So many amazing films have premiered including the highly anticipated, The Witch in the Window.

If you enjoy a spooky, heartfelt ghost story, then this one tops the charts!

This supernatural film was directed and written by Andy Mitton (We Go On, YellowBrickRoad). The cast includes Alex Draper (YellowBrickRoad), Arija Bareikis (The Purge) and Charlie Tacker.

Official Synopsis for The Witch in the Window:

When Simon brings his twelve year-old son, Finn, to rural Vermont to help flip an old farmhouse, they encounter the malicious spirit of Lydia, a previous owner. And now with every repair they make – she’s getting stronger.

As soon as I saw the trailer for this film, I knew I wanted to see it. It looked brilliantly shot and spooky. And, let’s just say it didn’t disappoint. It was such a powerful story that was built on an emotional relationship between father and son, mixed in with a eerie, old house, layered with even more emotion and mystery.

I absolutely loved the relationship between Simon (Draper) and Finn (Tacker). It was broken but beautiful. As they worked on the house together, their relationship grew stronger, getting to understand one another and learning to trust despite past. In the end, the father proves just how much he loves his son.

The ghost element of the story is just a bonus to everything else going on in the film. It’s tragically unique and creative. Terrifying but real. I’m not big on ghost stories, but I loved the way they executed it and the overall wraparound story.

Final Thoughts on The Witch in the Window:

I can’t wait for people to see this film. I think viewers will fall in love with the story from beginning to end, as well as understand how far one will go for the person they love. Check out The Witch in the Window when it releases soon!
