7. Haunted House – A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors (1987)
Some people wouldn’t choose A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: The Dream Warriors as their haunted house movie, but in many key ways it fits the bill. Freddy Krueger’s (Robert Englund) house figures very prominently throughout the film. When this house appears and you hear kids chanting that jump rope song, you know you’re in trouble. There are so many layers to the house, too. It becomes labyrinthine and alters itself with the character’s dream states. It’s also fascinating that Nancy Thompson (Heather Langenkamp) lived there prior to part three, because it’s implied Freddy himself owned it before his fateful torching. Perhaps it only brings the fight of good and evil closer together. In any case, you’d better grab a shovel, stock up on holy water and find a certain Cadillac if you ever take a tour of Freddy’s property.
