5. Ghosts – The Shining (1980)
There is scarcely a moment in The Shining that doesn’t imply some menacing force is at work. The Overlook Hotel would look haunted even if the story were entirely different. The Torrance family seems to be getting reeled into a malevolent scenario much greater than anything they could imagine. Jack Torrance (Jack Nicholson) interacts with ghosts regularly as his sanity slips away. Danny encounters some creepy, murdered identical twin spirits in a hallway. Who could forget that crazy, naked old dead lady in the bathtub or the weird people dressed in fluffy animal costumes? So yes, if you want ghosts, The Shining‘s got ’em.
