2. Black Cat – Pet Sematary (1989)

While the black cat named Church is not the worst movie villain in Pet Sematary, he certainly functions as a harbinger of things to come. When Louis Creed (Dale Midkiff) finds his daughter’s beloved cat has been hit by a car, he takes the bad advice of his neighbor, Jud Crandall (Fred Gwynne), and plants Church in a magical burial ground. When the cat comes back the very next day, Louis surely doesn’t grasp the enormity of his decision. Maybe that’s why the cat helps him to understand what’s going on. In addition to retaining the stench of death, Church plays numerous tricks on Louis, such as tossing a dead mouse into the bathtub while the poor man is trying to relax. Before long, the evil escalates and Church becomes a mascot for the evil force stemming from the Pet Sematary. Like Cujo, Church has become a horror icon in his own right. If only he would have stayed off that damn road!
