Ronin James’s ‘AMITYVILLE BARBI VS THE EVIL DEAD-O’s’ (2025) – Short Film Review

I’m a huge fan of The Evil Dead series. Any time something is said to be in that style, it always piques my interest. One of the latest is Amityville Barbi Versus The Evil Dead-O’s.

Read on for my thoughts on the short film.

Synopsis

Barbi (JESSA FLUX) has a secret. For the last year she has led a double life: actress and fashion model by day, demon-slayer by night! When the ultimate evil crashes her party, Barbi’s worlds collide, and she and her friends will have to fight to survive!

Amityville Barbi Versus The Evil Dead-O’s was directed by Ronin James from a script he wrote with Steph Infection. The short stars Jessa Jupiter Flux, Korey Flackler and Anthony Hoang.

I absolutely loved this short. To paraphrase a line in the short, it’s basically Buffy mixed with The Evil Dead. Buffy is my favorite TV series of all time and I’ve loved The Evil Dead since I was a kid and got it on VHS from Walmart, so this short really checked all the boxes for me. It’s delightfully meta, gloriously gory and just a lot of fun.

Jessa Jupiter Flux, who I’m a huge fan of, is great here as always. She makes a wonderful slayer. She does a great job in the action scenes and she’s hilarious. The action scenes are excellently choreographed and a blast to watch. It kind of reminded me of an R Rated version of the 60s Batman series that I grew up watching.

The only downside to the short is it left me wanting more, which isn’t a bad thing as there is a feature film version coming in the near future.

Final Thoughts

Amityville Barbi Versus The Evil Dead-O’s is a super fun, gory and meta. I had a wonderful time watching it and I can’t wait for the feature.
