Scream 7 (2026) stabbed its way into theaters this weekend, with fans turning out in huge numbers for the franchise’s latest chapter. While online reactions have been mixed, the big question remains: is it worth experiencing on the big screen, or should you wait to catch it on streaming?
Let’s take a look.
Synopsis
When a new Ghostface killer begins stalking the town where Sidney Prescott rebuilt her life, the past comes clawing back with a vengeance—this time setting its sights on her daughter.
Scream 7 (2026) is written and directed by Kevin Williamson. It sees the return of Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox, Mathew Lillard, David Arquette, and Roger L. Jackson from the OG cast. There are recognizable faces from other installments in the franchise like Scott Foley, Laurie Metcalf, Mason Gooding, and Jasmin Savoy Brown. Oh, and so many new faces that includes Isabel May, McKenna Grace, Jim Tatro, Asa German, Anna Camp, Michelle Randolph, Ethan Embry, Sam Rechner, Mark Consuelos, Timothy Simons, Celeste O’Connor, and Joel McHale. To say Scream 7 is packed with talent is an understatement!

Strengths
Scream 7 wasted no time sinking its blade in with a gripping opening scene. Longtime fans of the franchise know the drill by now—don’t get too attached, because these characters are usually first in line for the chopping block. This chilling introduction returns to the original site of carnage from Scream delivering a sharp hit of nostalgia. It’s a brilliantly executed sequence and, honestly, comes impressively close to matching the greatness of the iconic opener featuring Drew Barrymore!

The kills—oh, the kills—absolutely deliver. They’re inventive, brutal, and unforgettable; let’s just say you may never look at a draft beer the same way again. The film leans into the nostalgia fans crave while slicing in a fresh, unexpected twist that keeps it feeling sharp and new.
Oh nostalgia! Scream 7 absolutely warmed my Gen X heart. Watching it felt like stepping into a time machine back to the ’90s. The music, the return of the original cast, and the countless callbacks to the first film tapped straight into those core memories of seeing it as a teenager. And walking into a theater lobby packed with devoted fans breathed real life back into an industry that’s felt on the ropes lately—it’s been a long time since there’s been this kind of buzz and energy around a release.

Weakness
Scream 7 completely pulled me in. I was genuinely enjoying the ride, especially the way it leaned so heavily into that rich nostalgia. The franchise has always followed a familiar formula that longtime fans have come to expect—and love. But this installment veered off course with its big killer reveal. Instead of feeling shocked in a satisfying way, I felt genuinely devastated and disappointed. After spending the entire film tapping into core fan nostalgia, why shake up the formula at the very end and, quite literally, stab us in the back?

Conclusion
Scream 7 stands out as one of the strongest entries the franchise has delivered in years. It perfectly taps into nostalgia while still telling a compelling, well-crafted story. While it has flaws it is absolutely one worth seeing on the big screen!
