‘REDHEAD’ (2023) – Movie Review

What would you do if the only man you ever truly loved was killed in front of you and you barely made it out alive? Would you sit at home and isolate with your grief? Or would you take revenge? This is the question Autumn has to ask herself in Redhead.

Synopsis

Cannibalism and depravity drive Autumn Blacksmith, now widowed, to engage in a relentless revenge binge. Will she kill every man around her?

Redhead was directed by Sam Hodge (Reunion From Hell 2) and Johnna Hodge from a script by Sam Hodge. The film stars Johnna Hodge (Reunion From Hell), Ashley Stinnett (The Good Fight), Sarah Stinnett (Before Daybreak), Travis Robinson (Twelve Pole), Will Holland (Dying For A Bid), Daniel Lund (The 3rd Channel), Sam Hodge, Scott Myers (Undead Fred), Deana Leslie (Taste of Revenge), and Puggles The Pug (Reunion From Hell 2).

Redhead

Redhead wastes absolutely no time getting going, featuring 4 brutal murders in its opening scene. Autumn, her husband, and her friend are the victims of a family of murderous cannibals and against all odds, Autumn is the only survivor. From there we follow Autumn after she gets out of a psychiatric hospital and continues her recovery at home. One night out sets her on a path of murder and depravity. The death scenes in Redhead are extremely gory and intense and we get tons of them. It’s even more impressive when you factor in that Sam and Johnna Hodge worked on the effects themselves in addition to everything else they did for the film.

Johnna Hodge delivers a fantastic performance as Autumn, a woman who has had her entire life destroyed and wants a little payback. She does a good job at easily switching from the quiet moments to an incredibly scary one-woman wrecking crew, destroying any man who comes into her path and Autumn’s evolution throughout the film is fucking insane. I feel I also need to point out that Puggles the Pug was absolutely adorable in the film. It made me sad when I saw the film was dedicated to her memory as she had passed away.

Redhead

Final Thoughts

Redhead is an intense and bloody story about a woman whose life has been destroyed and who is struggling to find some normalcy. Johnna Hodges plays the unhinged Autumn to perfection and the kills absolutely deliver the goods.
