‘Don’t Tell Larry’ Review

It’s hard to balance comedy and thriller together on screen. Given the potential of the cast and its intriguing story, it’s really sad to see this movie fall flat on its face when it could have been so much more.

Don’t Tell Larry, written and directed by Greg Porper and John Schimke, and starring Ed Begley, Jr and Dot-Marie Jones, begins with hard-working Susan trying to climb the corporate ladder. All of that is thrown off balance when a new employee named Larry comes into the office and gives a very creepy vibe. However, when their boss strangely falls out of the office building, all signs point to Larry as the primary suspect.

The idea of the film is intriguing by its own admission and seems like a fun heist, comedy film that might be able to stand on its own two feet, but the story is the only thing that might keep it held afloat.

The screenplay is flat and doesn’t inspire any new ideas with a couple of friends trying to get rid of the strange, suspicious guy that gives everyone the creeps. Other than that, it’s a typical slasher film that has already been done with the Scream or Final Destination franchises.

Moreover, the comedy is cringe and has already used jokes that have been recycled by other projects. It might’ve been funny twenty years ago, but it fails to live up to other funnier films.

All in all, this movie has a lot of potential when staring at it for what it’s worth, but it fails to do anything new or reinvent the wheel for audiences.
