Light As A Feather

Hulu’s ‘Light as a Feather’ Series is Hauntingly Perfect

Despite everyone raving about Netflix’s The Haunting of Hill House, I decided to go against the grain and binge watch another Hulu series called Light as a Feather. It’s definitely marked towards a younger age group, but I enjoy horror and thrillers of all type, so I thought, “Why not give it a try?”

And guess what? Hulu didn’t disappoint.

Created by Lee Fleming Jr, this supernatural thriller is based on a story by Zoe Aarsen that has more than 2.9M reads on Wattpad. The series revolves around a group of teenage girls (Liana Liberato, Haley Ramm, Brianne Tju, Ajiona Alexus, Peyton List) who must deal with supernatural fallout after playing an innocent game of Light as a Feather, Stiff as a Board. Turns out, this game wasn’t so innocent, and the cost is deadly. They find this out when their friends start dying off in the exact way that was predicted. Will the girls figure out how to stop it?

It took about two days – only because I had to work – but I binged the 10 episode series within the blink of an eye and fell in love with the story. As a young girl, I loved playing Light As A Feather, Stiff As A Board, so it felt relatable yet comforting that nothing horrifying like that ever happened to me after playing the game. If you love shows like Pretty Little Liars, Riverdale, and The Vampire Diaries, I guarantee that you’ll love Light as a Feather. It’s targeted towards a younger audience, but the story is compelling enough to hook watchers of any age. It’s an emotional story with gun-wrenching moments, thrilling from beginning to end, and full of twists and turns that will leave you wanting more.

Every episode is layered in suspense, and each time the audience thinks they’ve discovered the truth about one situation, a new lie pops up. It’s full of delicious drama and complex characters whose karma has came back to haunt them. I really enjoy all the characters, despite their ignorant decisions, but Violet (Haley Ramm) is the girl you love to hate and hate to love. Every time I started to feel for her, she would do something ghastly horrible again. I’m sure that’s what the creators intended for, but man, was it infuriating. Get your shit together, Violet!

I also have to give credit to the amazing special effects throughout the series. There’s some truly cringeworthy and haunting scenes that made the show stand out above many of the others out there, along with the amazing writing and cinematography.

The last episode leaves you with so many questions that you’re dying to know the answer to, but unfortunately, that’s the bittersweet feeling of a cliffhanger. Let’s just say that Season 2 can’t come soon enough. If you love thrilling stories with drama, mystery and suspense that can depict fear and horror with minimal blood and gore, Light as a Feather is for you!
