Written and directed by Steve Balderson and Elizabeth Spear, Hell Town is one of the most inventive horror comedies of the past decade. The movie is about a TV show/Soap opera where all of the episodes have been lost in a fire except the last three. The story within the movie is about the residents of Hell Town. A killer has been on the loose and has been dubbed “The Letterman Jacket Killer.” So far, the killer has only been killing Lettermen who also happen to be known as “Hellions.” In these last three different episodes, Debbie Rochon hosts as herself. Dare I say brilliant? Each episode is left on a cliff hanger and introduces something new and fresh like a soap opera. You also have a cast playing high schoolers that have clearly graduated years ago. Some of them even take on multiple roles in each ep.

Why this movie works so well is the fact that it doesn’t take itself too seriously. The ensemble cast is beyond impeccable. The cheesy chemistry between them all just works so well together. Hell Town is like The Young and the Restless meets Twin Peaks with a little Beverly Hills 90210 and a really demented Saved by the Bell thrown in the mix. As I was watching this film, I could not believe how freaking clever it truly is. It deserves every award it has received and not to mention it has a 6/10 rating on IMDb.com. Seriously, people! Watch this film and go rate it higher…you’ve been asking for creativity…well, it doesn’t get more creative then Hell Town.

Final Thoughts: This movie could honestly work as TV show, and I would gladly tune into every episode, especially with Debbie Rochon hosting. She gives Hell Town that nostalgic feel of USA Up All Night with Rhonda Shear. The kills are good, cheesy fun and very original. I didn’t want it to end. This is a film that I wish I could have been a part of…It was that damn imaginative. Do yourself a favor and watch Hell Town…I guarantee you’ll be cheering on the Hellions!
