Blu-Ray Review (2018): ‘Monster Party’ is Brutally Entertaining

RLJE Films has delivered quite the range of amazing horror films this year. I just recently watched their new release, Monster Party, which is available on DVD and Blu-Ray. It was absolutely insane and brutally entertaining. Although I had read the synopsis beforehand, nothing could have prepared me for blood bath ahead of me.

This new horror thriller was directed and written by Chris von Hoffmann (Drifter). The film stars Julian McMahon (Nip/Tuck), Robin Tunney (The Craft, The Mentalist), Sam Strike (Leatherface), Erin Moriarty (Blood Father), Lance Reddick (John Wick, Fringe), Brandon Micheal Hall (Search Party), Virginia Gardner (Project Almanac), and Diego Boneta (Scream Queens) .

Official Synopsis for Monster Party

The story follows three thieves who plan a daring heist posing as waiters at a fancy Malibu mansion dinner party in hopes of paying off an urgent debt. When their plan goes horribly wrong, the trio realizes the dinner guests are not as innocent as they seem and their simple cash grab becomes a violent and desperate battle to get out of the house alive.

For me, the film started out a bit slow. It was still entertaining but it definitely doesn’t compare to the insanely fast pace that the rest of the film delivers. It goes from 1 to 100 in a blink of an eye and an epic shit storm emerges that is delightfully wonderful and utterly chaotic. Beyond that the cast delivers killer performances with brilliant twists and turns along the way.

Monster Party isn’t one that you can only watch once and be satisfied. A second viewing is a must to make sure you caught on to all the madness that mayhem that occurs throughout its entire run-time. It’s such a fun story that turns into one deliciously fun blood-bath. Seriously. There’s so much blood and gore, and the special effects and makeup are insanely good which makes it that much better. So many iconic scenes and severed body parts that will forever be imprinted into my brain.

This film had a killer cast and it was fun seeing them all work together. I especially loved Julian McMahon and Robin Tunney’s performances. Their characters suited them perfectly and they killed in every scene.

Final Thoughts:

Monster Party definitely stands strong as one of my favorite horror movies of 2018. It’s one massive blood bath that will keep you entertained from beginning to end. It’s insane and there’s nothing quite like it out there! Be sure to check it out because as of today, December 18, you can purchase it on DVD or Blu-Ray!
