Amara Cash’s Get Off My Lawn will have you questioning everyone’s intentions, especially when moving into a new neighborhood. Get Off My Lawn is up, down, and all around throughout the entire movie. It poses a good question of “What if?” Sometimes what we see as harmless can escalate very quickly, even in real life.
Synopsis
A sweet suburban couple is terrorized by a deranged teenager and his friends after they purchase his grandfather’s sacred home. What starts off harmless leaves everyone in shock and awe.
The film stars Christine Dunford, Tahj Mowry, and Melissa Jo Bailey.
Family Tradition
I live in the house my grandpa built in the early sixties, with just my grandpa and his brother. I can easily understand the pain of having to watch all your memories disappear into someone else’s idea of what home is. Every inch of our home holds a memory for me. It’s where I was raised, so of course, this home holds my childhood. I would never give this place up without a fight. I think that is what sold me so quickly. Though I wouldn’t take such drastic measures, I would be heartbroken. Get Off My Lawn reached deep into memories I didn’t even know I had.
I honestly had no clue how quickly this movie would deliver the punches, and within minutes, you can tell how the film was going to unfold, or so you think. What seems like comedy or Dennis the Menace turns dark, and the laughs are over. Unlike most “based on reality” movies, I thoroughly enjoyed Get Off My Lawn. I still question my own mental limits when faced with this issue. Those who are the same know that deep down, there is a fire to live where we grew up; it serves as a security blanket, which this film describes very well. How far would you personally go to get rid of unwanted guests?

Get Off My Lawn shows how quickly someone can change their mood at the slightest inconvenience. The entire movie seems like one big temper tantrum because you refuse to grieve. I get behind the message, having no grandparents anymore, makes you think sometimes. What is amazing is how everything flowed so well in the film. I wasn’t expecting this type of storyline, I mean, obviously it’s a horror movie/thriller just from the title alone. It starts as a comedy, ready to dig its claws in at any moment. You could also believe the cast in their roles; it was a perfect mix between sane and insane. The veil is pulled so quickly you don’t even realize how serious it is.
In The End
I will say that I was very giddy with how great this film is. It made me question my sanity at times, and it held my hand in some very scary moments. To me, this is the magic that can save an indie horror. It also reminds me not to sleep on Tubi Originals. You never know what is out there in the world beyond blockbuster horror movies. There is so much untapped gold in the indie scene, because we only hear the basic names like Chucky or Michael Myers. Reach down into the abyss and find yourself movies that don’t need a guy in a mask.
