WiHM 2018 Interview with Actress/Writer Cati Glidewell

I’m always looking for up and coming star actresses and I believe Cati Glidewell is one of them. I first saw her in the indie horror film Irrational Fear and I loved her character. However, there’s far more to her than just acting.

Learn more about how she got involved in the industry, details about Irrational Fear, all the sites she writes for (including The Blonde in Front), upcoming projects, and more.

PopHorror – It’s great to talk with you, Cati! How long have you been a fan of horror?

Cati Glidewell – I have been a fan of horror and sci-fi since I can remember. My Dad and I would watch Friday fright night since I was little.

PopHorror – What is the first horror movie you ever saw?

Cati Glidewell – The first horror films that I recall watching is Squirm, Friday the 13th, Alligator and The Fog. If it was a Saturday night scary movie I was watching it.

PopHorror – I’ve never seen Alligator, I’ll have to check it out! How long have you been involved in the industry?

Cati Glidewell – I’ve been involved in the industry for a few years now being an associate producer on The Dead Bodies in #223 or working behind the scenes.

PopHorror – I know you write for Nightmarish Conjurings. How did that come about?

Cati Glidewell – Shannon McGrew asked me if I would consider writing for Nightmarish Conjurings and I said YES! I love talking movies with her and I look forward to writing my first post.

PopHorror – Me too! Do/did you write for any other sites?

Cati Glidewell – I currently write for World of Death/Bloody Disgusting and Geek Nerdery, I have written for Horror 101 with Dr. AC and will be writing for Boom Howdy/Downright Creepy and Daily GrindhouseI also own the site The Blonde in Front. So check that out as well! =)

PopHorror – You starred in the horror film Irrational Fear (read our review – here). How did that come about?

Cati Glidewell – I saw the audition for Irrational Fear on a friend’s page via Facebook and I reached out to them and then sent in my audition. I got the call from Hunter Johnson that I was Helen.

PopHorror – Could you relate to your character at all?

Cati Glidewell – Not really other than she speaks her mind but I handle things with less hostility and say FUCK a lot less but…that depends on the situation.

PopHorror – (Laughs) Sam here. Which scene was your favorite?

Cati Glidewell – My favorite scene was the gazebo and anytime I got to improv or work with the script. That was a fantastic set and cast and so incredibly collaborative and open.

PopHorror – Since the film is about fears, I have to ask do you have any irrational fears?

Cati Glidewell – My fear is not trying new things out of fear or not pushing myself out of fear. I did that for way too long.

PopHorror – I have a bit of that myself. Do you plan on acting in more films?

Cati Glidewell – I definitely plan on acting in more films.

PopHorror – Great to hear! February is Women in Horror Month, who are your female inspirations?

Cati Glidewell – My female inspirations for horror would be almost every female character John Carpenter has written and the actresses playing them including Adrienne Barbeau, Jamie Lee Curtis, Laurie Zimmer, Lisa Blount, Meg Foster to name a few. As well as Sigourney Weaver’s Ellen Ripley from the Alien films, Rosalind Cash as Lisa in Omega Man, Jenette Goldstein in Aliens and Near Dark and of course Barbara Crampton and her body of work. These women have created characters I would love to play but more importantly I would love to fight beside and have on my side in a film or two.

PopHorror – Those are all amazing women! Do you have a favorite female-driven film?

Cati Glidewell – What immediately comes to mind is The Descent as well as what may be my favorite film of 2018 right now, Annihilation.

PopHorror – I can’t wait to see that one! Do you have any upcoming projects you’d like to talk about?

Cati Glidewell – YES! I’m excited about Skeletons in the Closet which is an 80s horror experience that is a unique take on the anthology style of filmmaking, GAGS the Green Bay clown that took over the internet is coming out as a feature film. Irrational Fear being submitted to film festivals, the web-series Life of Harold, a few more shorts, and features that are in pre-production and continuing to grow. The Blonde in Front and whatever comes my way. Trying everything, telling you about it, and not being afraid of what happens next.

PopHorror – Good luck, Cati. You will do wonderfully!
