What sites have you written for?
Let’s see, I started writing in 2014 for Crypticrock.com, where I wrote the Week in Horror Movie History article for just about two years as well as movie and live music show reviews. I got to do a lot of cool interviews, too – I cut my teeth on Joe freaking Dante! I still can’t believe I did that so early in the game. I realized in my time with CrypticRock what looks and sounds good in an article. I also have written about the horror and music festival Rock and Shock for three years running.
Which ones do you currently write for?
Now I write for Pophorror.com and HorrorGeeklife.com. I’m much more involved in writing, editing and helping to run PopHorror as well as being a co-owner of the site. Just keeping up with the daily demands of the site is like a second full time job, but I wouldn’t have it any other way. You’ll never find another group of writers as passionate about horror as the ones we have writing for us. There is no other genre that instills such fervor and enthusiasm. We all do it for the love of horror. Also, I love my site co-owner and I honestly couldn’t ask for a better person to share this ride with. We’re both on the same page about so many things and that makes making those hard decisions that much easier. Not only do I get to wax on about horror with PopHorror, but I also get to explore my geeky side with HorrorGeekLife. That site is the best of both worlds right there.
What it’s like owning your own site?
It’s a lot of fun to explore my passion for all things horror through PopHorror. I find it amazing that I can still be scared by things, even this late in the game. I love getting to know all of the behind the scenes stuff that goes on when making a horror movie – from the direction to Director of Photography to special effects to editing to music. I’ve met some of the greatest people through PopHorror. I’ve seen people go from relative unknowns to celebrities in the indie horror biz, and that’s only over the past year!
What is your favorite horror movie?
My favorite classic horror movie would be Jaws. The terror is real – I’ve never read news reports about a swarm of vampires going onthe attack but I have read about sharks taking some serious bites out of people – even in fresh water! I’ve been terrified of sharks since having one wash up on shore during a Cape Cod vacation when I was 12. Talk about traumatic. We just happened to watch Jaws: The Revenge at the drive in that weekend, too. I would say that was what sealed the deal. Plus the score, acting and effects are perfect. You couldn’t ask for a better horror movie.
