The Crying Boy
This legend comes from the UK. The story goes that in 1985, a Britain newspaper called The Sun printed a story titled “Blazing Curse Of The Crying Boy.” The Crying Boy in question was the tile of a painting by Giovanni Bragolin that was found in perfect condition after a house had completely burned down. What’s more, a firefighter at the scene said he knew of many other fires where “The Crying Boy” painting had been. An investigation was carried out but not before people started throwing their paintings onto a bonfire. Over 50,000 copies of the cursed painting had been sold at this point. The investigators had found that the paintings had been varnished with flame retardant, a completely logical reason for them to have survived a fire.
