Movie Review: Steve Rudzinski’s ‘Wally Meets Popeye’ (2025)

Since Popeye has entered the public domain, we’ve seen lots of films with the character as a slasher villain. Steve Rudzinski’s latest film, Wally Meets Popeye, does something different – having Popeye team up with Wally Griswold to stop a rampaging beast.

Popeye has been dealing with a creature on the island of Ohio that keeps trying to kidnap Olive Oyl. At the same time, Wally Griswold won a trip to Ohio from a mysterious contest. Can these two heroes solve the mystery of this monster?

Wally Meets Popeye was written and directed by Steve Rudzinski (CarousHell). The film stars Steve Rudzinski, Ben Dietels (Bathtub Shark Attack), Clarence Seybert III (Curtain for Christmas), Carly Sonafelt (The Emasculator), Jillian Alice, David Denovchek (A Cheesy Christmas), and Roxanne Guarino (A Cheesy Christmas).

I’m always excited when Steve Rudzinski releases a new movie, so it made me really happy when I got the chance to review this. Wally Meets Popeye was everything I expected it to be, which is a goofy good time. One of my favorite moments was Wally randomly going on a rant about people who hate to watch indie films. Another was Wally’s friend Rick constantly talking about his wife and kids and how they actually exist, even though we’ve never seen them and Wally’s never met them. I really enjoyed the look of the creature and how it was constantly getting its ass kicked by Popeye. I loved that they got the look of Popeye right and how he had the big arms that we all associate with him.

Steve Rudzinski is a blast to watch as Wally. He’s always doing good and trying to help people, even if he is a bit naive at times. Ben Dietels is hilarious as Rick. He’s got some of the funniest dialogue in the movie and he and Wally make a great team. Clarence Seybert III makes a wonderful Popeye. He’s a great hero that you can easily root for. Carly Sonafelt is a fantastic Olive Oyl and really mastered the feel of the character. Jillian Alice was fun to watch as Dawn, a woman who tries to seduce Wally.

Final Thoughts

Wally Meets Popeye is an absolute blast. It’s got a wonderful sense of humor with a great cast and it’s generally just a lot of fun. Highly recommend. You can purchase a copy here.
