Let Them Fight: ‘Godzilla vs. Kong’ Movie Review (2021)

Godzilla vs. Kong is the latest installment of Legendary’s Monsterverse. The film is directed by, Adam Wingard (Death Note 2017) and stars, Millie Bobby Brown (Stranger Things 2016) and Alexander Skarsgård (The Legend of Tarzan 2016).

godzilla vs kong

Godzilla vs. Kong is easily one of the most anticipated films of the year, gaining hype since December. And I’m happy to say the film lives up to that hype. After countless delays, the two titans of terror finally meet, and it was fantastic! It’s been nearly 50-years since these two iconic monsters battled. In 2021, they get the reunion they deserve.

My favorite moments of the film were obviously the monster battles, which there was a ton. The movie definitely delivered in more ways than one. Each monster gets a respectable amount of screen time, which is always welcome. Both Godzilla and Kong held their own very well.

But was there a winner? Maybe. Maybe not.

Regardless of who won, the movie puts on a visual spectacle. The effects were absolutely fantastic. From the monster effects to the building destruction, Legendary does a great job at making their characters pop, and an even better job with their cinematography.

The direction was fabulous, you can tell Wingard made this with fans in mind. I really enjoyed the emotions each monster had, Godzilla was his usual terrifying-self. But Kong was very human in a way and was able to communicate through sign language. Even though I was rooting for Godzilla, I couldn’t help but feel bad for Kong when he got hurt.

The only knock was the confusing plot. I’m not even going to try and explain it. Just watch it and you’ll see. But honestly, who watches a Godzilla movie for the plot?

Godzilla vs. Kong is the greatest movie ever made. I said it. I might be a little biased since I am a lifelong Godzilla fan, but it’s true. The Monsterverse has done an amazing job at connecting the dots from one film to the next. And it shows how you don’t need 23 movies to tell the entire story.

This film was a hit, it was a knockout from start to finish. A ton of action and emotion. Godzilla vs. Kong is the best film of 2021. Here’s to the next installment. But for now, enjoy the rivalry. Long live the King, Godzilla.
