Blu-Ray Review: Sci-fi Thriller ‘2067’ is A Wild and Beautiful Journey About Survival

Sci-fi action films are typically hit or miss for me, so I wasn’t sure how I’d feel about 2067. I ended up pleasantly surprised and it was a wild and beautiful journey about survival. This film was written and directed by Seth Larney (Tombiruo). It stars Kodi Smit-McPhee (X-Men Apocalypse, Let Me In) and Ryan Kwanten (True Blood, Sacred Lies).

Synopsis for 2067

By the year 2067, Earth has been ravaged by climate change and humanity is forced to live on artificial oxygen. An illness caused by the synthetic O2 is killing the worlds’ population and the only hope for a cure comes in the form of a message from the future: “Send Ethan Whyte”. Ethan, an underground tunnel worker, is suddenly thrust into a terrifying new world full of unknown danger as he must fight to save the human race.

This film has a great story and although in the future it hits home to what we’re going through right now with the pandemic. In 2067, the world is dying, people are dropping at the drop of a hat, and everyone has to wear masks or they die. Sound familiar? It’s scary accurate to what we’re going through and what our future could be if we don’t make changes. Luckily, this is just a film and not all hope is lost. One man has the unfortunate privilege of saving the world, but can he do it?

Kodi Smit-McPhee and Ryan Kwanten both delivered strong, emotionally powerful performances that leave a lasting impression. They had great onscreen chemistry and both played an important part in driving the story and the intensity of it all.

Both the DVD and Blu-ray have bonus features including the director’s commentary and behind the scenes of 2067. I personally loved the behind scene special feature. It was an in-depth look at the story and everything that went into the making of this film. Being that this film takes place in the future, great special effects and makeup are a must and 2067 delivers on all aspects.

Final Thoughts

I highly recommend checking 2067 out. It’s a great film with a beautiful story, phenomenal performances, and crazy beautiful cinematography and special effects. RLJE Films will release 2067 on November 17, 2020, on DVD for an SRP of $29.96 and Blu-ray for an SRP of $29.97.
