Justin G. Dyck's Anything For Jackson

Blu-Ray Review (2021): Justin G. Dyck’s ‘Anything For Jackson’ Is Disturbingly Brilliant

The last time I checked out this film was for 2020’s Nightstream Film Festival and I remember it blowing me away. Justin G. Dyck’s Anything For Jackson (check out our reviews here and here) still stands strong among many other supernatural films, especially new release ones. It was directed by Justin G. Dyck (Christmas With a Prince) and written by Keith Cooper (A Witches’ Ball), Anything For Jackson stars Sheila McCarthy (The Broken Hearts Gallery, Die Hard 2), Julian Richings (Spare Parts, Man of Steel), Konstantina Mantelos (“Miss Misery”, “Paranormal 911”) and Yannick Bisson (“Murdoch Mysteries”).

Synopsis for Anything For Jackson

After a tragic car accident that took their grandson’s life, Audrey and Henry are unable to go on without him. Following the guidance of their ancient spell book, the elderly couple decide to abduct a young pregnant woman with the intention of performing a “reverse exorcism” to channel their grandson’s spirit inside her unborn child. But when it becomes clear the ritual has called upon more than one spirit, the couple realize they have summoned more than they bargained for and must put an end to the evil entity they’ve invoked.

Honestly, I think I dig this film even more after a second viewing. I loved everything about it and have no complaints. The story, the phenomenal performances, the cinematography, special effects, and the atmosphere all team up perfectly to create one hell of a supernatural horror film. The theme of doing anything for a loved one or to bring back a loved one isn’t new but Anything for Jackson delivered a fresh, twisted, and sinister take on it. It’s a heartwrenching story about different types of loss and how that loss can drive someone mad and do questionable, unmentionable things.

As I’ve mentioned before, Sheila McCarthy and Julian Richings delivered heart-wrenching and emotionally-powered performances that will almost make you forgive their characters for what they’re doing but not completely. Their chemistry and relationship helped drive this film and make you understand the pain and misery they were going through. Konstantina Mantelos was equally phenomenal and gave an emotionally powerful performance. Her character goes through hell and back yet manages to keep fighting despite all the obstacles thrown at it.

Justin G. Dyck's Anything For Jackson

Anything for Jackson delivered pure nightmare fuel with horrifying creatures, haunting imagery, spectacular spooky special effects, and a grim atmosphere that swallows up any sign of hope. Up until now, I had totally forgotten about the creepy lady who kept flossing her teeth, but now it’s imprinted in my memory again and will probably haunt me for weeks.

If you have a love for all things sinister and supernatural, I highly recommend giving this film a shot and adding it to your horror collection. Justin G. Dyck’s Anything For Jackson is now available on VOD, Digital, DVD, and Blu-ray!
