I’ve always enjoyed Along Came the Devil and was definitely intrigued when I heard about its sequel, Along Came the Devil 2. Would it be as good at the first, or fall flat as many sequels do?
Visionary, Jason DeVan (Along Came the Devil), who co-wrote the film with his wife Heather DeVan (Along Came the Devil), will direct the sequel. It will star Academy Award-nominated actor Bruce Davidson (X-Men), Laura Wiggins (Showtime’s “Shameless”), Mark Ashworth (Magnificent Seven), and Tiffany Fallon (Christmas in the Heartland).
Synopsis for Along Came the Devil 2
After receiving an unsettling voicemail, Jordan returns home, looking for answers, only to find her estranged father and even more questions. A demonic force has attached itself to the town and no one is safe. The only one who seems to know anything is the small town’s Reverend.
This is a very intense film from beginning to end. There are no happy moments just pure dread that leads up to horrifying and tragic events. It’s been a long time since I’ve seen the first one, but I think Along Came the Devil, is far more terrifying and packed full of hopelessness.
All of the performances were great, but Laura Wiggins and Mark Ashworth are phenomenal. Their estranged father-daughter relationship is uncomfortably realistic and hard to watch. As someone who has a rough past with my father as well, I can completely relate to the pain and awkwardness of the situation. Wiggins gives an emotionally driven performance that shows a different side to her acting skills and personally I loved it. Meanwhile, we see Ashworth transform himself in so many different ways throughout the film, that’s almost hard to believe it’s the same person.
Although many will find this film terrifying, I mostly found it heartbreaking and tragic. It shows a different side to possession and how it can impact the family versus the person who is suffering through demonic possession. A rippling effect of hopelessness.
Final Thoughts
Along Came the Devil 2 is one I’d definlt recommend especially with Halloween just around the corner. Turns the lights off, grab your coziest blanket, and let the haunting begin. This film is set to hit Theaters, Digital and On-Demand, October 11, 2019!
