Howdy!
I’m Gus, and I’ve been writing for PopHorror for almost a year now. It’s been a trip to write about my favorite thing in the world… that isn’t my wife or my cats.
I fell in love with horror movies after a whole childhood of being scared. There was nothing worse – or better – than driving to Blockbuster with my family and wandering into the horror section to give myself nightmares with the Wishmaster or Jack Frost VHS box art (the lenticular printing on that Jack Frost especially will never leave my mind.)
In high school, I decided to take what scared me and start studying it. I developed an obsession with giallo and art house horror films, as well as the stomach for the torture/home invasion wave of the early 2000s. I’ll always be a horror fan, because there isn’t a genre out there that embraces outsider perspectives and challenges convention like horror. It’s the dark, flickering campfire that we’re all gathered around to tell the bloody truth.
My top 5 are:
5. White Dog (1982)
4. Theatre of Blood (1973)
3. Baskin (2015)
2. Suspiria (1978)
1. Funny Games (2007)
Nice to meet you!
