Stalker movies aren’t really my jam. I have seen some, but they aren’t usually something I’ll pick to watch over other genre movies. With that said, oddly, when I saw the trailer for Stalker (2022), my interest was piqued and I wanted to see it. Let’s get into my thoughts on this movie. Spoiler-free, of course!
Here’s a look at the poster!
Stalker (2022) Synopsis
Left with no phone signal as a storm approaches, tensions escalate and suspicions rise when Rose discovers the identity of the mysterious man is Daniel Reed, a camera operator who is seemingly obsessed with her.
The film stars Sophie Skelton (Outlander – TV Series), Stuart Brennan (The Reverend), and wrestling legend Bret Hart (The Demented).
My Thoughts
Stalker (2022) is a tense, cat-and-mouse game set in a claustrophobic elevator. I really dug this film! Due to the nature of the setting, with only two main characters, it’s really character driven. Both Stuart Brennan and Sophie Skelton nail their respective roles. This, along with the taut plot and the general creepiness and claustrophobic ness of this film, makes it a great watch.
I think many of us relate to the premise of the film. I used to take an elevator every workday for almost 10 years and this was always a fear of mine. Being stuck in an elevator. But not just stuck by myself, imagine being stuck with a stranger.
This film delves into that very idea. Rose (Sophie Skelton), an actor, catches an elevator at her hotel, where Daniel (Stuart Brennan) is waiting in the elevator. They basically start as strangers stuck in an elevator and they begin with small talk and then they continue to talk and the conversations get deeper. As Rose and Daniel start to find out about each other, on the surface it appears Daniel is a camera operator obsessed with Rose and that’s the danger. But is it?
While this film seemingly follows the basic stalker ‘trope’, it brings so many great twists! And I loved it. The twists, along with the characters, make this film so worth a watch. Be sure to watch for WWE superstar Bret Hart’s role in this film!
Final Thoughts:
This film is definitely worth checking out. I enjoyed the film, it is a psychological thriller film with strong characters and many plot twists and the payoff at the end is great.
