Camp Blackfoot and Camp Stonewater
The Burning (1981) is directed by Tony Maylam and is loosely based on the New York urban legend Cropsey, which is a story that became popular at summer camps during the 1960-1970s. The movie tells the story of a Camp Blackfoot caretaker who is horribly disfigured after a prank goes wrong. After being released from the hospital 5 years later, a rage is growing inside him and he takes revenge on a different summer camp, Camp Stonewater. This slasher horror movie is highly underrated and is often dismissed because many consider it a “knock off” of Friday the 13th. First of all, many would argue that this movie in some ways tells a far better story than the original Friday the 13th. Plus, Harvey Weinstein claims that he wrote the script for this film before the first appearance of Jason Voorhees. Yes, the stories have a few similarities, but they are far different.
