Why A New ‘Halloween’ Video Game Adaptation Must Happen

Michael Myers has been widely regarded as one of the greatest horror icons to ever grace the screen, striking terror into the hearts of both characters and audiences. Many fans hoped to see Michael be featured in his own video game, and it wasn’t until 1983 when the Haddonfield Boogeyman was featured in his own game for the NES. Despite this, fans throughout the years have been dying to see Michael in a new video game. Now, with the tiny taste of Michael Myers available as DLC on the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the survival horror game Dead By Daylight, fans are aching more than ever to see a Halloween video game come to life. PopHorror has compiled a list of five reasons why the horror community needs a new Halloween video game,

5. The Game Would Rival Friday The 13th: The Game

Although Michael Myers is playable in Dead By Daylight for Playstation 4 and Xbox One, fans are still not satisfied, as the game doesn’t center around the Haddonfield Boogeyman. With Friday The 13th: The Game attracting both controversy and success, now is the perfect time to bring in another video game adaptation of another classic horror franchise. Having the game launch with a story mode, more maps, more kills and more skins than the Friday The 13th game would certainly catch the eyes of many survival horror gaming addicts.

4. The Game Could Deliver A Fun Online Experience That Fans Can Enjoy

Much like Friday The 13th: The Game, the online gameplay in Halloween would be asymmetrical, where gamers could play as characters from the films while one player dons the role of The Shape. Just imagine how fun and terrifying it would be to have a match take place at the Haddonfield Memorial Hospital from Halloween II, with you running through the halls from The Shape himself. Having maps inspired by settings from each of the films would be a real treat for fans of the franchise. The intensity would resemble that of Outlast, stacked with jump scares that would make players hold tightly on to their controllers. If the game developer goes this far with making this the scariest video game yet, why not implement an optional VR add-on to give players the full, authentic Halloween experience?

3. The Game Could Deliver An Amazing Story Mode

One thing that would more than delight fans of the franchise would be if the game developers were to include an original story mode in which you play as more than one character, with your choices affecting the pace of the game. If there are two developers that can easily implement that mechanic into a Halloween game, it would be Quantic Dream who are known for making the critically acclaimed games Beyond: Two Souls and Heavy Rain, and the second choice being Supermassive Games, who are also known for making the pulse pounding horror game, Until Dawn.

One thing that would truly make the story mode special is if one of the players we get to play as is none other than Michael himself. Just imagine playing as The Shape and experiencing in game just what exactly it is that goes on in his head, or perhaps quickly tapping a button to stabilize his injuries and see firsthand exactly how his body heals so much damage. I’m sure if Quantic Dream or Supermassive Games were to make a Halloween game, then they would perfectly balance the cinematics and gameplay. If the developers were to go with my vision (might as well throw in how cool it would be if it was directed by John Carpenter himself), then I have no doubt in my mind that the story mode in Halloween would topple Friday The 13th: The Game by a million times.

2. The Game Would Help Boost The Momentum Of The New Film

If there were to be a premiere date for a Halloween game, what better way than to release it around the time that the new upcoming film is being released? Fans are already anticipating Halloween 2018, as it is set to be released on October 19th, only a few days before the 40th anniversary of the original 1978 film. Just imagine how much the excitement would double if the new game were to be released shortly after the new film releases in theaters! Just think of how cool it would be if the pre-order exclusive for the game would be unique Myers skin designed for the game, or perhaps the new Michael from the upcoming film!

1. It Would Inspire Video Game Adaptations Of Other Horror Icons

Despite Friday The 13th: The Game already having fans dreaming of other horror icons getting their own games, there’s no doubt in my mind that a Halloween game would turn heads and start influencing other developers to start making video game adaptations of other classic horror icons such as Leatherface, Pinhead, Ghostface, Chucky and many others. It would be interesting to see if this game would influence the rise of many video game adaptations, as fans who adore their respective franchises now have the chance to play them.

This about wraps up our list of reasons why Michael Myers needs his own updated video game stat. Do you agree? Let us know your thoughts in the comments! Stay tuned to PopHorror for all of your horror and pop culture news, reviews and interviews!
