PopHorror Let's Get Scared
Waxwork Records and Rob Zombie have teamed up to bring us the Rob Zombie Presents series of classic horror OSTs. They kicked it off with the classic film White Zombie, , featuring artwork from Graham Humphries.
Their first release is really impressive and unique to what you may be used to with an OST. The artwork is beautiful but retains a classic feel to it. The vinyl itself looks like it was pressed with jungle sludge. It looks amazing. Included is an insert that oozes Rob Zombie’s style where he wrote about the film and what it means to him. You can tell that this was done by people that have a true passion for the project.
The OST itself may not be what you typically expect. It has the music from the film, but also sound bites from the film itself. The sound bites can range from dialogue, to sound effects and even blood curdling screams that will raise the hair on the back of your neck. The best way I can describe it, is like when in some horror films, there are scenes where an old horror film is playing on a television in the background and you can hear almost like a highlight reel of the scariest parts. It doesn’t play out the entire film, just carefully chosen snippets that create an eerie atmosphere when listening.
As a fan of the film, I love this release and I can’t wait to see where they take the Rob Zombie Presents series from here. It’s a strong start and makes an excellent addition to any horror fans collection.
