I knew from the moment I saw the trailer and stills for Werewolves Within that it was my type of film. From director Josh Ruben (SCARE ME), and penned by screenwriter and bestselling author, Mishna Wolff (I’M DOWN) – based on the virtual reality video game by Ubisoft. The ensemble cast includes Sam Richardson (VEEP, DETROITERS), Milana Vayntrub (THIS IS US), George Basil (CRASHING), Sarah Burns (BARRY), Michael Chernus (TOMMY/CBS), Catherine Curtin (ORANGE IS THE NEW BLACK), Wayne Duvall (THE HUNT), Harvey Guillén (WHAT WE DO IN THE SHADOWS), Rebecca Henderson (RUSSIAN DOLL), Cheyenne Jackson (30 ROCK), Michaela Watkins (BRITTANY RUNS A MARATHON), and Glenn Fleshler (TRUE DETECTIVE).
Synopsis for Werewolves Within
After a proposed gas pipeline creates divisions within the small town of Beaverfield, and a snowstorm traps its residents together inside the local inn, newly arrived forest ranger FINN (Sam Richardson) and postal worker CECILY (Milana Vayntrub) must try to keep the peace and uncover the truth behind a mysterious creature that has begun terrorizing the community.
This film was wicked fun and the perfect whodunit werewolf film. It reminded me of a mix between Fargo and Clue and that in itself should be enough reason for you to check this film out. That being said, Werewolves Within is incredibly fun, mysterious, with quirky characters, and a steady level of suspense throughout the film.
I loved all the performances and characters. Sam Richardson is a gem and always brings more life to a film. His character was genuine, sweet, and the kind of friend we all need in our lives. Milana Vayntrub was equally delightful and I loved seeing her character development. All of the other characters in this bizarre and tight-knit community are also equally quirky, weird, unique, and layered with alternative motives.
Werewolves Within keeps the audience on its toes throughout the film. We’re never quite sure who the mysterious werewolf is or if there really even is one at all until the end… I loved not knowing. Sometimes films make it way too obvious but much like Clue, it could be anyone.
What makes this film even better is that it’s the perfect watch for the whole family. Everyone can enjoy and play a game of whodunit. Werewolves Within is now available On Demand from IFC Films, so check it now!
