What Works

Leave the World Behind (2023) provides a suspenseful story filled with tension-inducing moments. The characters’ dismal reality was brought to life by outstanding performances by a talented cast of actors. Additionally, the carefully placed symbolism throughout the movie echoed the dire circumstances ahead for the characters in their new apocalyptic reality.

The Ending

It is the ending of Leave the World Behind (2023) that has split the opinions of audiences. In my opinion, the end of the film is brilliant and really resonated with me. I have had ‘my world’ crumble around me, only finding relief by using a pop culture escape. While I liked the ending, the hatred from some viewers has been massive. This seems to stem from a dissatisfaction with questions left unanswered and a lack of character resolution.
