PopHorror Let's Get Scared
Back in 2006, someone thought it would be funny to set Friday the 13th Part III’s (1982 – read our retro review here) Higgins Haven house on fire. The guy actually went on a Friday the 13th forum and posted a picture of the house going up in flames after he he had set it. He was soon arrested not long after posting his self-incriminating picture.
I still remember the day I discovered the news. I was absolutely heartbroken and angry. Friday the 13th Part III was my first entry into the franchise when I was a kid. Since then, it has always been my favorite Friday installment. Friday the 13th Part III has my favorite Jason in Richard Brooker (Deep Sea Conspiracy, Deathstalker), my all-time favorite final girl in Chris Higgins (Dana Kimmell), and my favorite group of victims in Shelly (Larry Zerner), Andy (Jeffrey Rogers: Surf II 1983 – read our review here), Debbie (Tracie Savage), Chuck (David Katims), Chili (Rachel Howard), Vera (Catherine Parks), and Rick (Paul Kratka). Also, the film has my all-time favorite character in Higgins Haven.
Yes, Higgins Haven is my favorite character in the entire franchise. I love the creepy barn where Chris goes head-to-head with Jason, the house itself where Shelly and Andy face-off to see who the best juggler is, the swampy lake where Pamela Voorhees jumps out of the water and grabs Chris, the dock where Jason makes his first appearance in a hockey mask where he shoots Vera in the eye with a spear gun. God… Friday the 13th Part III has such a great setting in Higgins Haven.
I remember after hearing the terrible news, I thought, “Why can’t they just make a replica of the house?” I had that thought for years. Well, the horror gods must have been listening to me because my prayers have been answered! Within the last couple of weeks, it was announced that yes, indeed, they are planning to build a replica of the Higgins House from Friday the 13th Part III. To say that I was extremely joyous would be an understatement.
I was even more excited when I heard why they are building the replica. Sometime in the future, not only are they building the house, but they are also going to recreate the lake we see in Friday the 13th Part III! All of this will be done so that Friday fans can take a tour of Higgins Haven in the near-future.
If you’re a Friday the 13th fan, then it’s time to break out the champagne bottles. It’s time to do a happy dance and celebrate the resurrection of Higgins Haven!
