Every once in a while, Tubi makes a decent original movie. I came into The Camp Host, not expecting much. I was ready to be let down again. However, I was wrong; it has some fantastic (and gross) moments. I was pretty entertained throughout the entire movie. Let’s dig in.
Sypnosis
A married couple Ed (Dillon Casey) and Sadie (Rachel Colwell) traveling the US in a van need to stop for a rest. They find a campground and were immediately welcomed in by the camp host (Brooke Johnson) Who gives the couple a deal on a camping spot. What they think is going to be a great time is killed off when the camp host anounces her rules. It is quickly discovered that the camp host is a powerful spectre. She goes on her killing spree because of the rules being broken Who will survive?
How It Started
The Camp Host has a pretty genius storyline, even though I could predict what would happen. That’s just me. It’s how I was made. I have watched thousands of horror movies throughout my entire life. It doesn’t mean I don’t like all modern horror; it just means I’m neutral until I see them for myself. That’s my story, and I’m pretty solid in my stance.
The Camp Host had a lot of great moments that make you uncomfortable, not knowing what to do next. No matter how many movies I have seen, some moments in the film triggered my anxiety, not precisely in the wrong way, though. I knew what was coming, but the pause threw me off.
How it Ended
Though The Camp Host was predictable, I often saw beyond that. Upon closer inspection, I saw a great film. I never thought this movie could make me feel this way. The Camp Host is a movie you can enjoy on a date night. It’s not scary; it’s just spooky. The filming in the woods looks incredible, especially at night. The scenery is beautiful despite a psychotic killer on the loose.
I felt awful for the dog the most. The humans, well, they had a toxic relationship. However, they learned a big lesson in life. Even if it’s too late, they still bond afterward. Those are signs of two negatives that don’t make a positive. That’s just my theory; I’ve been married 15 years, and we have our moments. We end up walking away to concentrate on TV or positively letting go of our feelings.
In The End
I would give The Camp Host a chance; it is a fun little ride filled with paranoid thoughts. The entire movie is creepy, even in the daylight. I have camped many times and probably won’t ever again after watching this movie. It has moments that will make you want to throw up, but it also settles in your stomach at the same time. If you are not a jump scare person, you’ll be able to watch this as The Camp Host moves slowly until the ending is revealed. My takeaway is that it is one of the better Tubi originals; I was impressed. In the end, that’s what matters.
