SyFy is hit or miss for me. Gone are the days of the Sci-Fi channel’s glory. At least that’s what I thought before. Revival has a great story that is completely original. I didn’t get the concept at first, but then it hit me like a ton of bricks. I enjoyed every minute of this show. At first, I wasn’t too interested, and that is a big deal for me. However, Revival set itself up to trick me.
Let’s get into the review.
Synopsis
One miraculous day in rural Wisconsin the deceased rise from their graves, yet appear and act unchanged. And now it is up to Officer and single mother Dana Cypress to solve a murder case where everyone, alive or undead, is a suspect.
Created by Aaron Koontz and Luke Boyce after a comic book series created by Tim Seeley. I can say the two show creators nailed the assignment. It’s a run-of-the-mill story to most film snobs. To me, putting aside the “sister” aspect of a film, where two estranged family members come together to heal their lives. They are right, it has been overdone; however, what they don’t realize is that this is only the tip of the iceberg. There is so much more behind this story.
I found myself so intrigued that I woke up early every day while watching this show, and I was always left fulfilled. In fact Revival is the newest show to welcome into rotation for me. There is also a dynamic that people say is overdone. For me, it kept things interesting. They didn’t need to kill off every character to show the brutality of what is going on.
A Lost Channel
Revival takes me back to those pre-Sci-Fi days. The channel had become a memory of originals that weren’t great, and to be honest, I just stopped watching the channel. There are so many terrible movies in the new rotation for this channel. Revival kicks all of Sci-Fi.
One day, I will learn to eat my own words, but I have come close, especially in the first 10 minutes. I tried to convince myself that what I was watching had a Stranger Things vibe, and I am not into that show at all. I walked away feeling so much better about myself and my choice to give this series my full attention. If I had gone with my gut at first, I would have messed something new and exciting in our genre. I challenge you to think about who you would want back. Especially if they showed up just continuing life.
In The End
Revival has a lot of great points. There are some things I could have brought to light, but what for? I am here to attract people to what I write about. Everything deserves at least one watch to ask yourself if the film or show keeps you interested. If you were to play the same 5 TV shows for 20 years, it would get so dull. I may have a regular list of shows or films I keep in rotation, but give Revival a chance, and I bet you will fall in love.
