Fun Facts About Stephen King’s IT – The 1990 Miniseries And ‘IT Chapter One’

To celebrate the release of It Chapter Two in theaters this Friday, September 6th, PopHorror has compiled a list of fun facts from the It TV miniseries (1990), and It Chapter One (2017). Check out our review of the newest film here!

Also, here is the trailer for It Chapter Two, if you haven’t seen it yet.

It (1990) Miniseries Trivia

1) On the DVD commentary track, the actors note that Tim Curry’s portrayal of Pennywise was so creepy and realistic that everyone avoided him during the filming.

2) The night guard in the asylum is called Koontz, named after Stephen King’s rival author, Dean R. Koontz.

3) Tim Curry has less than 20 minutes of screen time.

4) Alice Cooper was considered for the role of Pennywise.

5) It came out in 1990, the same year that Bill Skarsgård was born. Skarsgård would go on to play Pennywise in It Chapter 1 and 2.

6) The blood oozing from Georgie’s photo was unusual to see in a TV movie in 1990s. It (1990) paved the way for TV movies and miniseries in the future to push the envelope far more than ever before.

It Chapter One (2017) Trivia

1) Some lines of dialogue were improvised by the actors. A lot of Richie and Eddie’s banter was improv.

2) Jackson Robert Scott (Georgie), who is the youngest on the cast, stated that he wasn’t as scared of Pennywise as he thought he would be. He said he actually had a fun time doing his scenes, and that Bill Skargård was always joking around.

3) Jack Dylan Grazer (Eddie) was the first one out of all the kids to work with Bill Skarsgård (Pennywise). During their scene, Grazer would cry and gag while Skarsgård was right in his face, yelling and drooling. Skarsgård was concerned for Grazer, and, after the scene ended, asked him if he was okay. Grazer looked right at him and said, “I love what you’re doing with this character!” Skarsgård was left confused and impressed at Grazer’s attitude, calling the child actors “little professionals.”

4) Pennywise has only four minutes of dialogue in the entire film.

5) The movie had been in development for seven years before filming actually began.

6) The teeth that Bill Skarsgård wore as Pennywise made him drool profusely. Director Andy Muschietti  loved this because the drooling adds onto the ravenous nature of Pennywise.

We hope you enjoyed all of these fun facts! Will you be seeing It Chapter Two on Friday? Let us know in the comments below!
