I’m not sure about all of you, but I love vintage and nostalgia. It is fascinating to see how things have changed and – sorry, not sorry – vintage is better. This revelation sent me on a internet search of vintage ads, videos, sales flyers, TV show spots, games and all kinds of stuff, and now I’m going to share them with you. Introducing… Flashback Fridays for PopHorror! Without further adieu, let’s kick things off with a commercial for Milton Bradley’s game, Simon, and the voice narrating it.
As a child born in the late ’70s, I am officially a child of the ’80s. Today’s kids will never understand life before the internet, when we eagerly anticipated the Sears Catalog for our Christmas wish lists. There was nothing like it! It was just pages and pages of glorious toys and games.
In the ’80s, there weren’t a lot of home video games yet, but electronic, battery operated games took off. A Sears Catalog must have for everyone was the Milton Bradley game of Simon. If you haven’t played, Simon is an electronic memory game with lights and sounds. You have to repeat the lights and sounds in order exactly as Simon plays them, like the game Simon Says. It sounds simple, but it definitely challenges you.
Alas, I did not have Simon. My family was all about the Sears Catalog, so we had this Sears knock off version of Simon game called Follow Me. Anyone remember this one?
But I digress, back to the actual Simon game. Recently, I stumbled across this Milton Bradley commercial from the 80s, and it is narrated by none other than Vincent Price! Watch it below!
While I didn’t watch Vincent Price films until in my teens, I did know his voice from a little Michael Jackson song called Thriller. This Simon commercial just exudes ’80s nostalgia, a time with fun commercials that weren’t all about insurance, cars, cell phone service and prescription drugs. I hope that you enjoyed this look back, and be sure to stay tuned for more Flashback Fridays. Anyone remember this commercial? Anything you’d like to see featured for a Flashback Friday?
