‘Five Nights At Freddy’s’ (2023) – Movie Review

Five Nights At Freddy’s follows troubled security guard Mike who begins working at the abandoned Freddy Fazbear’s Pizzeria. While spending his first night on the job, he realizes the late shift at Freddy’s won’t be so easy to make it through. The film stars Matthew Lillard, Josh Hutcherson, and Elizabeth Lail.

When the night shift starts, the nightmare begins…

Five Nights At Freddy’s is based on the video game of the same name, which came out in 2014. The game spawned several sequels, including Five Nights At Freddy’s: Sister Location. I personally never played the video games, but I did watch YouTubers play them.

Five Nights At Freddy’s was a very fun movie! I know there have been good and bad reviews coming out about the film. I do think the movie was made for the fans of the video games. That being said, I think anyone can have fun going to see Five Nights At Freddy’s. My sister came to see it with me and she didn’t know anything about the games and she still enjoyed it. I also think this is a great gateway for new horror fans! I noticed there were a lot of kids at the theatre.

Can you survive?

The reason I went to see FNAF was mainly for Matthew Lillard. I absolutely adore this man and will watch anything he’s in. He has a brief role in the movie, but I laughed a few times. As someone who knows the video games, I thought it was so fun there are so many little easter eggs for fans. I got actual goosebumps when Mike (Hutcherson) the security guard turns on the security monitors for the first time.

The one complaint I do have is that I did find the film ran a little long. I think it may have benefited from a shorter runtime.

I think if you go into Five Nights At Freddy’s expecting an award-winning film like Get Out, you’ll probably be disappointed. However, if you’re a fan of the video games and like a cheesy fun horror film I think you’ll end up having a good time and enjoy it. I’m excited to see if there will be sequels in the future, after all, they have like nine other games they could make into movies. I would not complain if Matthew Lillard made another appearance.
