Rachel Talalay’s ‘A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting’ (2020) – Movie Review

A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting is a new fantasy comedy that is currently streaming on Netflix. It looked like the perfect film to watch during October, so I had to check it out.

This film was directed by Rachel Talalay (Tank Girl, Freddy’s Dead) with a screenplay by Joe Ballarini (Present) based on his book. The cast includes Tamara Smart (The Worst Witch), Oona Laurence (The Beguiled), Tom Felton (Harry Potter franchise, and many more.

Synopsis for A Babysitter’s Guide to Monster Hunting

A babysitter embarks on a mission to save a child who’s been abducted by monsters.

This film was super cute, fun, and perfect for the whole family. It reminded me of films from my childhood like Monster Squad, Halloweentown, Little Monsters, and The Goonies. Wholesome fun with some angry monsters on the loose!

All of the cast was amazing especially Tamara Smart and Oona Laurence. They had great on-screen chemistry and I loved how their relationship grew throughout the film. But as a huge Harry Potter fan, I was incredibly stoked to find out Mr. Draco Malfoy aka Tom Felton was in this film. He played the villian so well. I loved the look and style of his character.

This film had beautiful cinematography, imagery, and special effects. It also did a great job with the fantasy aspect of this film but didn’t go over the top with it. It was the perfect mix of reality and fantasy and I couldn’t get enough of it. Some scenes were breathtaking like the one below.

Final Thoughts
