FGBFF 2018: Apocalypse Babies (2017) Short Film Review

In this political climate, it’s not hard to imagine the world inching closer to the apocalypse. Hate, intolerance, racism, sexism, and politicians engaging in dick measuring contests are steadily rising. The end result of this is the world that Apocalypse Babies takes place in and it’s a bleak one.

Apocalypse Babies was written and directed by Anabelle Berkani in her directorial film debut. The film stars newcomers Evo Berkani and Zola Berkani.

Official Synopsis:

Two children wander in a dead world where degenerates and echoes of the past resonate.

The world of Apocalypse Babies is a disturbing one. There are no adults to be found. Two young children silently wander the streets, alone but for the company of each other and the bodies of the dead. We are never told what exactly happened to the world, but it was obviously nothing good. The children are haunted by the voices of the past, the memories of those who thought climate change was a myth, those who turned their heads from the warning signs, those who refused to accept the scientific facts. The world of Apocalypse Babies is disturbing because it’s a world that isn’t far removed from our own. This could very well be our future.
