Double Double, Toil and Trouble: A Special Interview with Darklady

When working in the horror industry you meet a lot of amazing people. A few years back, I met a unique woman who refers to herself as the Darklady. Whether you believe in magic or not, the Darklady classifies herself as a witch and has gained a huge following. People love her, and you’ll soon find out why.

Read on to learn about her history as a witch, where she came up with the idea for Darklady, what this experience has been like, her female inspirations, and more.

Darklady

PopHorror – Thanks so much for talking with me! It’s great to learn more about your life. How long have you known you were a witch?

Darklady – Well, darling, I have known all my life. I remember sitting under a swing set, doing wish craft. I would do all sorts of things with majick. Even though I was brought up in a Christian home, I knew that I was different… You know, the black sheep of the family. I dressed differently and everything else. I just never fit in with the rest of the soccer moms… (Laughs)

PopHorror – Normal is overrated. When did you start practicing?

Darklady – Well, I started out with Wicca, and that was about 40 years ago, but I have always been a witch. Don’t you just love that word? WITCH. I sure do. The raw power that word carries. It can either scare and intimate the ones who hate us or bring love and safety to that person who practices the craft.

Well, sorry. Kind of got off the subject there, love. So I was doing Wicca, and then about 30 years ago, I came out of the closet and told my family that I was a witch and never looked back. Now, everyone knows, and I really don’t care if people like it or not. My family hates it. But I am who I am, and they can either be in my life or not. I figure, life’s way too short not to be who you are, and Darklady is that… this is who and what I am. A Dark Grey witch, not a Wiccan.

PopHorror – You’ve had quite the following. When did you start the Darklady persona?

Darklady – Yes, I sure do. I would say, in all my groups and pages, that I have close to 200,000 witches and non-magical people following me. I’m still not where I want to be. I want to get the word of the witch out and try to be the face of her, not the green-faced, child-eating evil old hag, but a strong, loving, take no shit majickal person.

I started Darklady about 8 years ago, and she has grown ever since. I have been called a cross between Elvira and Morticia… but the real thing, not a movie or TV personality. A dark witch and that is what and who I am. I help people every day to learn and with spells.

I just started a Darklady’s witch dating site yesterday, and I’m on the radio now with my lovely daughter, Raven, called Witch Talk Radio with Darklady and Raven. It’s going well. We are going to be picked up by Para-X radio very soon – excited about that!

I read Tarot and I’m a Necromancer who talks and channels spirits all the time. I teach people how to use the witch board – Oujia – correctly and man, I have a battle with that. To me, it’s just a tool, but most people say don’t use it because they think it will bring in demons. Bull is what I call that. I’m always fighting that. I have a YouTube channel where I have done it 2 times now, and I’m still here. (Laughs) I started using the board when I was 10, and now I’m 62, so I have had many hours on the board.

PopHorror – You definitely know your stuff. How many pages do you have now?

Darklady – I think I have about 20 pages and groups here on Facebook now. My groups are very good and interacting. We do a lot of things.

My biggest page – Darklady’s Horror Halloween Page – is the first page I started 2 years ago. It has 135,600 followers and is all about horror and Halloween. I love this page… it’s my baby!

Then I have a Witch group called  Darklady’s Dark Realm, that has 24,000 beautiful majickal and non majickal members in it. I’m very proud of this group, too.

PopHorror – Why do you think people can relate to you so much?

darklady

Darklady – Well, darling, I think it’s because I tell it like it is. I don’t take crap from anyone. I also care a lot about people.

Some people like how I look, and some don’t. I do have a lot of haters that go after me all the time, but hey, that’s just fine. It’s a part of being me Darklady, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.

PopHorror – Atta girl! Who are your favorite female horror actresses?

Darklady – Oh, man! That’s a hard one. I have so many, but my favorite is Debra Voorhees. She is such a doll, and she is an admin on my horror page, so I get to talk to her once and awhile. Also, of course, Elvira. I would love to have her on my radio someday. Of course, Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester), if you’re reading this…

PopHorror – Hell, yes! What is your favorite female-driven film?

Darklady – Alien. I love that film. The Bride of Chucky as well. I love that one, too. There are just too many to name them all.

PopHorror – What are your plans for the future?

Darklady – My plans are to keep going and make Darklady very well known and get to know more people.

I have been in magazines and in a book, and now I’m being interviewed by you. I’m so honored to be included with the rest of the greats.

I’m also working on having a convention of some kind to in the future.

PopHorror – That would be so cool! Your fans would love it. What are your current projects?

Darklady – Well, the Witch Talk With Darklady & Raven… it is so much fun. Radio is my thing. Darklady’s Witch Dating should be a hoot. My YouTube channel is called Everything Darklady. I do Tarot card readings, too, and channel spirits to help people with their grief. I teach the craft all the time and help people with spells. I’m writing two eBooks now: one on poppet spells and another one for little witchlings to help them get started. I’m writing them, and my daughter is doing the artwork. She is just awesome at it. I also have my own line of Darklady’s Merchandise

PopHorror – Anything else you would like to add?

Darklady – Well, just that I appreciate you so much for letting me be a part of this fun Women in Horror Month interview. I know I’m a little late, but thank you anyway. You are wicked awesome!

For anyone reading this, if you would like to know me better, you can find me on Facebook or just Google me.

Thanks again, doll, for having me here.

Dark Blessing to all!

May all your dreams or nightmares come true…
