I rarely come across bands that don’t fit the mold of the current state of music. Bachelor’s Grove is one of those bands that I instantly fell in love with. With a sound like a morbid lullaby to roaring that can wake the dead. Bachelor’s Grove seems to be their own aura, kicking down the gates of rock and roll standards.
In a world run by horror punk bands that all sound like Elvis, we sat down with the band for a really cool Q&A session.
PopHorror: Where did you first find a love for horror?
Abby: I was really into watching Dark Shadows, the original 60s soap opera, in middle school.
Aidan: I think growing up watching ghost reality TV on cable is what did it for me.
Nic: I backed into horror by way of Sam Raimi’s Army of Darkness” then worked backwards to the original Evil Dead flicks. I’ve always been more into the schlocky horror/comedy vibe. The campier, the better.
Lauren: I first found a love for horror at a young age through the Tim Burton Films Corpse Bride and Nightmare Before Christmas. With this later escalating to more paranormal horror films such as The Conjuring and Insidious.

PopHorror: How long has the band been together?
Bachelors Grove: The band started in 2018, but didn’t start playing shows until 2021.
PopHorror: You have an interesting name. Where did it come from?
Bachelors Grove: The band’s name is named after a well-known and haunted cemetery in the south suburbs of Chicago. Growing up in the area, it was sort of a local urban legend, and it just made sense to name our band after it.
PopHorror: Are you currently a touring band?
Bachelors Grove: No. We have fans around the world, but we won’t tour until the opportunity is right.
PopHorror: There are not many horror related bands outside of horror punk. Where does your sound come from?
Abby: Gothic imagery, and bands like Ice Nine Kills, Motionless In White, My Chemical Romance, and Avatar.
Aidan: Some darker classical and contemporary work from Mozart, Bach, Barber, etc. as well as Opeth and Nightwish.
Lauren: Our sound comes from a combination of Symphonic bands such as Nightwish and Symphony X along with goth inspired bands such as Ghost, Motionless in White and New Years Day.
Nic: I’ve always loved groups that cross traditional genre boundaries – it’s what drew me to want to join Bachelor’s Grove in the first place. Music is always more interesting to me when we pull from all of our influences and interests instead of feeling the need to “fitting into” a sound. I’m just as likely to pull ideas to add to my sound from a jazz album or drum’n’ bass track as I am from a new metal record.
PopHorror: Who inspired you to become a musician? (Everyone)
Abby: My Chemical Romance, because I almost went into culinary out of high school, but I got heavily inspired by them and it made me do a career change.
Aidan: Guitar hero is what did it for me.
Lauren: Lizzy Hale from Halestorm and Orianthi were a big influence growing up! Guitar Hero also introduced me to a lot of Rock/Metal bands that shaped my taste in music at the time.
Nic: My dad – I grew up watching him play the drums.
PopHorror: Where was the Immortality video filmed?
Bachelors Grove: There’s a really cool film set in the suburbs of Chicago that we found. I was really lucky to find it on peerspace.
PopHorror: How many singles and EP’s do you currently have released?
Bachelors Grove: 1 album, 1 EP, and 2 singles.
PopHorror: If you were only allowed to listen to three bands for the rest of your life, who would they be?
Abby: Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Avatar.
Aidan: Paramore, Opeth, and Nightwish.
Nic: Between the Buried and Me, Vulfpeck, The Mars Volta.
Lauren: Epica, P!nk and Queen! I think they’re all great in the genres they’re known for but also have an extensive catalog with times that they diversified their sound. So amongst the three of them I think I’d be set.

PopHorror: Who is the coolest band you’ve shared the stage with?
Abby: Raven Black, and now we’re friends!
Aidan: Starkill was my fav.
Lauren: So far Liliac is the coolest band we’ve gotten to share the stage with. We’ve opened for them twice and it’s always a great show!
Nic: Not a band, but an individual – I played a series of shows with saxophonist Donny McCaslin. He’s a killer player and writer in his own right, and was also the bandleader on David Bowie’s final album.
PopHorror: What is everyone’s personal favorite song from your own releases?
Abby: “Voices.”
Aidan: “Immortality” or “Blind Killer.”
Nic: To listen to: “Only Angels Know.” To play: “Immortality”
Lauren: “Immortality” is currently my favorite! It’s also one of the first songs I contributed Guitars to besides “E.V.I.L.” It’s a really fun song to play live!
PopHorror: What do you see in the near future for Bachelor’s Grove?
Bachelors Grove: We’re currently recording and prepping for the new year, releasing new music, and getting the shows and festivals booked for 2026. We’re at a really pivotal point in our career, in which “Immortality” has kind of “blown up” and we wanna keep pushing forward into a worldwide level over 2026.
Bachelor’s Grove is:
Abby – Vocals
Aidan – Lead Guitar
Lauren – Rhythm Guitar
Nic – Drums
