How far will you go to get revenge for someone you love? In Uncork’d Entertainment’s film, Revenge, (also known as Hevn)we get to experience exactly how far someone will go. Check out the trailer below!
Revenge is directed by Kjersti Steinsbø (Liten Knute 2008), story by Ingvar Abjørnsen and screenplay by Kjersti Steinsbø. Starring Siren Jørgensen as Rebekka/Andrea, Frode Winther (Borderliner) as Morten, Anders Baasmo Christiansen as Bimbo, and Trond Espen Seim (The Thing 2011) as Ivar.
After her youngest sister commits suicide, Rebekka goes on a mission of revenge by pretending to be a journalist for an internet travel website and heading to the fjords of Norway where her sister’s assailant resides. Once there, she realizes that getting her revenge won’t be easy, so she plans out a long scheme and slowly starts destroying his familial relationship and social status.
The first thing I want to talk about in Revenge is the setting. The film takes place on the Fjords of Norway in the village of Øvre Årdal and was filmed on location. Not only was the setting perfect for the story due to its isolation, but it is such a beautiful setting with its snow-capped mountains and its gorgeous blue sea.
Now let’s get into the story. While the plot of Revenge is a fairly simple one, the way Rebekka weaves her plot of vengeance is very intriguing and well thought out. The film is paced very well as we follow Rebekka through her journey of getting close with the family of her sister’s perpetrator and slowly sowing seeds of distrust amongst them. When the final act happens, it feels very satisfying and was well worth the wait, mainly thanks to the two main leads.
This film has a small cast of characters, and when you are dealing with such a small cast, the actors/actresses have to make their characters believable to make this type of story work. I can tell you that the cast in Revenge did a phenomenal job! Siren Jørgensen did an amazing job as Rebekka. She perfectly portrayed a woman who’s need for vengeance overcomes all other emotions, one who will stop at nothing to get her prolonged revenge, even putting others in harm’s way. Frode Winther’s Morten is the target of Rebekka’s revenge. Winther does such an amazing job playing a two-faced political figure who comes off as the everyday family man one minute and a complete sleazeball the next. His portrayal of Morten was so believable that I was looking forward to him getting his just desserts.
My overall thoughts on Revenge are really positive. With the beautiful setting, great story and amazing performances, Revenge is a film that will stay with you for days after viewing it. This is a high recommendation from me and may even make my best of list at the end of the year. The great thing is you won’t have to wait to see it. Revenge is available now on VOD.
