FGBFF 2018 – ‘The Penny Dropped’ Short Film Review

How far would you go to for fame and success? Some will give everything even if it costs others their lives. Something like this happens in the recent horror short I watched called The Penny Dropped. Another amazing short from the Final Girls Berlin Festival.

This intensely dark short was directed and written by A.D. Cooper. The cast includes Phillipa Peak and Abigail Thaw.

The Penny Dropped

Official Synopsis for The Penny Dropped:

A desperate woman is forced to go to a dark place and ask for help from an unlikely source.

Just like the rest of the features I’ve watched for the Final Girls Berlin Film Festival, this one was well done, intense, and delivered excellent performances.

Phillipa Peak and Abigail Thaw brought their characters to life and their intensity left you at the edge of your seat. Phillipa’s character was sad, disturbing, and relatable. In today’s world, it seems like many people will do anything to get their foot in the door, to climb the ladder, and ignore the consequences. Her pain doesn’t stem from what she’s done but what she could she lose. Sad, but realistic.

My favorite part was the little twist at the end that I definitely didn’t see coming. I love being surprised and I think everyone else will be too.

Final Thoughts:

The Penny Dropped is definitely one everyone should check out when they can as well as all other other shorts and full features from the FGBFF. Today, February 3, is the last day of the festival, but PopHorror will continue to post reviews for the next few days. Enjoy!
