A Homage To My Ghostly Home: Andrew Castruita’s ‘A CITY HAUNTED’ (2021)

I will say here and now that YES, I believe in ghosts. Why? Because I am from this city, there are so many places for paranormal investigators. The thought of these memories that bring back a moment in time, a story about long nights chasing ghosts, and working a crappy 9-5 for teenagers, which we were, I guess. Redlands, California, is a beautiful place, a place where life and financial “burdens” are separated by train tracks. This is my home, I love my hometown, and I miss it entirely. Most of that sadness, however, is talking to your best friend on the other end of the country for over 20 years, yes, the answer is me. A City Haunted is a long, hard look at one of the most haunted cities in the U.S. told by the people who live and love it.

Let’s get into this review.

Synopsis

A City Haunted focuses on a pranormal phenomen called Redlands. The Redlands California history can be very dark, with 7 haunted homes or parks, and of course, the cemetery. The Director interviews town residents who beleieve this city is haunted, and it makes people love it even more.

Redlands has always had paranormal investigators glued to places like Morey Mansion. The further you get into the hills of the city, the heavier the air gets. The anticipation of waiting to see a “ghost” and if we saw anything, we ran away as fast as we could. I’ll admit that I screamed like a woman several times in our travels. Redlands deserved a documentary that goes deep into who we are and what we do for fun. Redlands, California, is just some magical place. I have missed it every day since I moved on in adulthood; the night rides were over.

A town without pity
Legends Never Die, They Roam Redlands, California

The documentary is obviously shown in daylight. Several town residents share their stories. You can see the eyes go wide as if to say they are both scared and confused. This is just normal life for the residents of this town, which has not moved away from the 1800’s, and it never will. The film should be a PSA for kids who want a little thrill in their lives. We were all changing, and the night rides slowed down. We all drifted away, and I left the state. It will count asd the baddest situation of my life, mainly because of the ghost stories, to be in that cemetery at night, and of course, we had to run from the cops more than once.

The documentary explains all those times I saw ghosts, or what we thought were ghosts. A City Haunted woke something in me, and I could watch the film over and over again to see the place I loved and the mistakes we make as young adults. I expect people to look at this article and chuckle until the time comes for them to live with some Victorian bride that fell out of a window or something, isn’t that how all stories are, or something?

Morey Mansion in its prime

A City Haunted will always be in my list of background films while I work, so I can see my home again. This documentary was for people like me. It’s fun and campy to learn about our haunted city. There are so many stores and forbidden places at night out of fear.

A City Haunted is available on Prime and Tubi.
