PopHorror Let's Get Scared
When I first heard about a horror movie that involved Shannen Doherty and Tom Green, as well as directed by one of the best up and coming directors in the horror industry… I was sold! I was fortunate to view Bethany with an early screening and I was not at all disappointed. Let’s discuss why you should check out this psychological horror thriller the moment it comes out.
Bethany is directed and co-written by James Cullen Bressack alongside Zack Ward. It is set to debut in theaters and VOD on April 7th, which is less than two months away. It has an all-star cast, with the lead being played by the lovely Stefanie Estes as Claire and Zack Ward as her husband, Aaron. As mentioned previously, it also features the amazing talents of Shannen Doherty and Tom Green. If that doesn’t make you excited, wait until you hear the plot for Bethany:

Claire and her husband find themselves moving back into Claire’s childhood home only to have the abusive and traumatic memories of her mother come back to haunt her. As her husband starts to get more work, Claire finds herself mixed up in a fog of past and present with a mysterious figure haunting her memories. What is this small figure that is trying to reach out to her, and what does it want?
I don’t want to give anything away in this glorious film that had me on the edge of my seat, but I am going to give you my top 5 reasons to why you must see it when it comes out on April 7th, 2017.
1. The Acting
The acting is extraordinarily superior, especially compared to a lot of the mainstream movies that are out right now. Estes gives the performance of her life and is frighteningly beautiful. I’ve always loved Zack Ward and he plays the part of the unknowing husband perfectly. Doherty is nothing short of brilliant as the typical stage mother and she completely made the role her own. Green transitions so well from the comedian that we all grew up watching into a serious role that deserves praise and recognition. Anna Harr plays the perfect young Claire; there is something so unique and eerie about her character and it really brought that extra something to the story. I expect great things from her as an actress and can’t wait to see what else she has up her sleeve in future roles. There is also a very nice cameo by one of my personal fave scream queens, Felissa Rose! Who doesn’t love Felissa?
2. The Direction
Bressack really knows how to grab the viewer’s attention and is relentless with each frame in the film. Little by little, he unfolds the mystery of what is going on. It’s like he wants to get into your mind and mess with it just for fun. True marks of an incredible director!
3. It’s Cringeworthy Moments
At time, Bethany will make you close your eyes tightly throughout the film with cringeworthy moments that are far too unsettling, even for viewers with a strong stomach.
4. The Score
The music to the film by Alex Csillag sets the tone for the creepy manifestation that is taking place on screen during the entire run-time of Bethany. Kudos, because the music complemented the story well and seriously gave me chills!
5. It’s Endurance
Bressack and Ward’s story is nothing short of a total mind fuck. Bethany will stay with you long after the credits have rolled and may even make you question your own sanity.
Final Thoughts
Bethany is absolutely mind blowing. It raises some questions about what is truly going on and can be somewhat controversial, but those are the best types of movies. Bethany is not afraid to push some buttons, raise the bar, and is non-stop entertainment. This is easily one of my favorite horror stories of 2017 and I highly recommend that you check it out when the film is released on April 7th.
