I’m a busy girl, but I jumped at the chance to review The Andy Baker Tape for two reasons:
1. I have a soft spot for food
2. I have a soft spot for found footage films when the acting is right
Let me tell you, the acting is right in The Andy Baker Tape, an upcoming thriller released by Terror Films on August 5, 2022. In this film, the Baker brothers cook up a healthy dose of family dysfunction, fun, mystery, and murder as they road trip down the East Coast, and it was entertaining as heck.
The Andy Baker Tape stars Bret Lada (Alphahouse 2014) as Jeff Blake, a food blogger about to hit it big with his own show on the Food Network, and Dustin Fontaine (Homeward 2014), who plays his half-brother, Andy. Lada and Fontaine both directed the film as well, with the former showcasing his writing skills for this gem. The pair hit the road traveling from New Jersey to Baltimore to uncover some of the best restaurants the coast has to offer, filming all the while as part of a pilot for the upcoming show. Before they can end their tour, things go a little haywire, and the brothers are never to be seen again. The Andy Baker Tape centers around the disturbing footage left behind…
The Andy Baker Tape was written, shot, and edited in a 6-month period during the height of the Covid-19 pandemic.
Bret Lada says:
Created by a displaced screen actor, an out-of-work Blue Man, an Australian-based sound engineer, and a first-time female producer, this film is a testament to creation and keeping the artistic spirit alive while the rest of the world was forced into hibernation. Our story is a joyride of laughs, thrills, and suspense. My team and I are delighted to share it with you.”
Many critics have sung the praises for The Andy Baker Tape and it is easy to see why: The film takes the simplicity of found footage and intertwines unique family dynamics over the backdrop of what should be a fun and exciting road trip for both brothers.
