The first season of The Pitt (2025) just finished airing and all episodes are available for streaming on MAX. The Pitt (2025) brings Noah Wyle from ER (1994) back for another medical series. Although what will pique horror fans’ interest is that Fiona Dourif plays Dr. McKay in The Pitt!! This made me wonder if other cast members had ‘horrific’ pasts.
Synopsis
A realistic examination of the challenges facing healthcare workers in America as seen through the lens of the frontline heroes working in a modern-day hospital in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Horror Connections
Fiona Dourif
This one took a minute for me to realize. I had just finished the second episode and I kept thinking that Dr. McKay looks so familiar. At the end of that second episode I let the credits play and the actor’s name was revealed. I was flabbergasted! I have watched all her roles in the Child’s Play franchise. I have even seen her in person at conventions, but she is almost unrecognizable on The Pitt. She just looks so different with long red hair!
Her character in The Pitt is quite a different role for Fiona Dourif, but she acted flawlessly. She embodies a tough ED resident facing the real life horror healthcare professionals face. It is incredible to watch.
Fiona Dourif’s past in horror was not overlooked by the show creators. There is well placed dialogue that nods to this. As well as a special guest appearance from her father, Brad Dourif, known as the voice of Chucky from the Child’s Play franchise.

Shawn Hatosy
Right away I recognized this actor from one of my favorite 90s horror films, The Faculty (1998). Shawn Hatosy plays Dr. Abbot in The Pitt. His character is a tough doctor with a military medic background who is ready and prepared for anything.

Horror Honorable Mentions
It appears many of the other cast have horror/thriller backgrounds too. Shabana Azeez was in Birdeater (2023). Isa Briones is in the Goosebumps (2023) television series. Finally, Tracy Ifeachor was in Blooded (2011). I am going to have to add these to my list of movies and television series to check out.

Final Thoughts
This television show gives a realistic view of the tragedy, gore, and horror that healthcare professionals face. The procedures and situations portrayed on The Pitt are so accurate. The performances by all the cast is excellent. Now that all the episodes have aired of The Pitt it is a perfect time to stream them on Max!
