The Audition (2017) Horror Short: When Passion Becomes Obsession

We all want something in life, something that makes our lives more meaningful. What happens when an opportunity to begin a dream career turns into a horrible nightmare? We find out in the new terrifying horror short, The Audition.

the audition

Directed and written by Anthony Raus, The Audition has a runtime of around 20 minutes. The short is a disturbingly dark story that stars Hollybeth Gourlay, Jackson Trent, and Joel David Taylor.

Synopsis:

An actress (Gourlay) thinks she is about to audition for the opportunity of a lifetime, but things aren’t what they appear to be when she wakes up in a room, tied to a chair with cameras pointed at her. Now she is the victim of a director (Trent) who will make sure she gets the scene right by any means necessary.

The Audition is a pretty impressive horror short. The story is unique and highlights the moment when someone’s fantasy becomes their reality. The way it is shot gives the viewer just enough information to go on, yet leaves a bit of mystery as well.

The acting was, overall, pretty good. Trent plays a convincing sadistic fuck who is trapped in his own twisted head. Meanwhile, Gourlay’s character was ruthless, and she was not going to allow herself to play the role of a victim, no matter how much he tortured her.

The blood and violence aren’t horribly gruesome, but there are a few moments that will make you flinch and have you bowing down to the horror gods that this situation has never happened to you. Yet…

Overall, I think The Audition is definitely a horror short that many will enjoy and should check out. You know what they say – when one door closes, another door opens with a sadistic killer lurking around the corner. Wait, that’s not right, is it?
