‘Steel City Con’ Returns With A Scream

About four times per year, the Steel City Con returns to Monroeville, PA with a gigantic list of celebrities and vendors packed to the gills to celebrate all of the greatest fandoms in pop culture. Between celebs, artists, and vendors, there was no shortage of things to occupy the time of the massive crowd.

This particular iteration featured 41 different celebrities spanning many genres. This convention ran its final 2023 show from December 8-10, and they were kind enough to have me attend.

One of the biggest selling points of Steel City Con is that it offers professional photo opportunities with individual celebrities as well as group reunion photos. The two big collective gatherings for this convention were the seasonally appropriate A Christmas Story and the decade defining slasher, Scream (check out our editorial review here). While the lines were gigantic for the actors of the popular horror staple, the workers carefully curated a flow and directed everyone to the right place.

David Arquette (Riding the Bullet 2004) noted that he’s very excited for the release of his new comedy The Dark Half, while Jamie Kennedy (Malibu’s Most Wanted 2003) mentioned that while things are insane in the world of Scream right now, he’s curious as to who the killer(s) could be in the next movie.

While all that action took place in the adjoining hotel area, the main convention center was busy as well. While artist alley was filled with rows of dozens of vendors, some of the other guests that filled the space were Alec Baldwin (The Departed 2006), Giancarlo Esposito (Breaking Bad TV series 2009), and Pam Grier (Jackie Brown 1997). But Steel City Con offers more than just guests and memorabilia. They also have food, drinks, a costume contest, Q&A panels, and many other lively attractions.

The next Steel City Con takes place from April 12-14, 2024. Check back on their website for future guest announcements, as it will surely be a show that’s not to be missed.
