Supernatural Horror is one of the few subgenres of horror that really gets to me. It really gets under my skin and creeps me out. One of the latest Supernatural Horror I had the chance to check out is Whisper of the Witch.
Read on for my thoughts on Whisper of the Witch.
Synopsis
After a group of teenagers breaks into an abandoned mansion on the edge of town, a mysterious evil arrives, and one of them winds up dead. Detectives from the city are called in to investigate the crime, one with a history with the malevolent force that possesses this manor, and he’s determined to learn the mystery of the witch of Merden Manor. Past collides with present as a phonograph, an altar, and the WHISPER OF THE WITCH condemn them all.
Whisper of the Witch was directed by Serik Beiseu (The Demoness, aka Succubus) from a script by Sergey Kaluzhanov, Yuliana Zakrevskaya, and Dmitriy Zhigalov. The film stars Artur Beschastnyy (The Demoness, aka Succubus), Maryana Spivak (Baba Yaga: Terror of the Dark Forest), Sofya Shidlovskaya (Mermaid: The Lake of the Dead), Igor Grabuzov (No Looking Back), Sergey Safronov (“Stranger Things”), and Valeria Kot (Eva).

I was highly impressed with Whisper of the Witch. It is incredibly intense and oozes with atmosphere. It moved at a nice and steady pace. The 95 minute runtime flies by. The film, in some ways, reminded me a little bit of The Monkey, in that it deals with a cursed object that caused deaths. While The Monkey played things for laughs, Whisper of the Witch is much more serious and has less gore. The film does a great job of being creepy and unsettling. The script does a solid job of making you care about the majority of the characters, which was honestly kind of refreshing.
The characters are well fleshed out. They all have there own hardships they have been through and it makes them more relatable. The character I related to and liked the most was Yana, a teenage girl who gets bullied by her stepsister and her friends. She’s lost both of her parents at a young age, which is something we have in come. Then there’s Paul, the cop who is called in to investigate the deaths. He’s kind of broken down and drinks heavily but his heart is in the right place. I really like his relationship with Sophia, Yana’s stepmom that he knew growing up. They had great chemistry together and you really wanted to see these characters make it out of their situation alive.

Final Thoughts
Whisper of the Witch is a more than solid Supernatural Horror film that is creepy and unsettling and has a great cast of characters that you can’t help but root for. Highly recommended.
