Review: Sci-Fi/Horror Short ‘Be Us’ (2018) Infects the Internet

Watch the skies for Be Us, the new sci-fi/horror short from Alex DiVincenzo and T.J. Frizzi. I want to believe! This six minute film was an official selection at NecronomiCon 2017, Salem Horror Fest 2017, Rock and Shock 2017, and Boston Science Fiction Film Festival 2018. Watch and you’ll see why. It’s pretty cool!

Be Us Synopsis

A man is interrogated after encountering an otherworldly being.

Be Us was produced by Lockbridge Productions, a Massachusetts-based indie production company founded by writer/director/producers Alex DiVincenzo and Jordan Pacheco.

The film stars Frizzi himself as Charles Allen, while DiVincenzo edited and scored the short and Pacheco created the special makeup effects. The cinematography was by Neil Guliano.

Here’s a look at the official poster!

What Works

Be Us is a one man show. Fortunately, that one man (Frizzi) is capable of carrying it. Obviously, the lead is comfortable being on camera as well as the focus of attention. Less is more when it comes to short films, and this one makes the most of what it has. I dig the makeup FX. Both the hand and the face makeup are really well done.

What Doesn’t Work

No real complaints. I might have gone with some creepy contact lenses at the end for the final shot…. maybe a sinister voice reverb. Hooking the hero up to a heart monitor or some other medical equipment and showing the readings steadily beep and go wacky along the way could have also been cool. Suggestions for the full length feature! Overall, I enjoyed Be Us, and I think it works very well.
